Screen time doesn't have to mean shame and guilt! There are amazing resources out there for children that encourage true learning, exploration, and skill development! Here's a rough list of my favorites personally vetted and given a thumbs up by my children!
***The key to successful technology for learning use is explaining boundaries ahead of time. sounds like this, "Yes, you may use your Ipad until I say we're done, I need to trust you'll hand it over when I say, if you see an ad bring it to me, why don't you start with_____"
Also important, do not to sandwich learning apps next to junk apps that's like offering an apple on a plate with candy, we know what they'll pick. Ipads must have only learning apps, no games or netflix, youtube, etc. if you want to maximize the use of learning apps. Also it's important to make sure nothing has ads. It leads them to the app store and scrolling, the app store has to be off limits.
TV Shows
I put on the show as if they get the chance to peruse they will definitely be advertised to and see junk shows that are colorful and look cool. Advertisers are smart and know how to enlist kids to prefer their mindless shows. Which are OK sometimes, we have a once a week, Saturday morning cartoon tradition where they can watch those shows and during other times I can say, "That looks like a Saturday morning cartoon, let's save it for then."
